Healthy Chocolate Smoothie (no Bananas)

This creamy healthy chocolate smoothie (no bananas!) is prepared super quickly and is therefore an ideal breakfast or a delicious snack in between.

With our three children it is NEVER EVER boring. From early in the morning to late in the evening, it's a little private circus at home. Between ice hockey games, building a farm or duplo towers, I often don't have the time to prepare meals. That's why I love recipes like this. And our children too.

This chocolate smoothie without bananas not only tastes amazing, but it also gets full points in the healthy ingredients category!

Healthy Chocolate Smoothie (without bananas) - Ingredients

  • Water – The basis is cold, clear filtered water.
  • Dates – They not only provide the right amount of sweetness, but also contain lots of vitamins and healthy ingredients!
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder Unsweetened Cocoa Powder – The unsweetened cocoa powder makes the smoothie chocolaty. It is also said that its ingredients make you happy and put you in a good mood. Just bring it on!
  • Cashews – Cashews make the smoothie nice and creamy and give it a great consistency.
  • Cardamom – Oh, I love this spice. You too? It tastes so good and goes perfectly with the cocoa and the sweet dates. But it is optional and you can skip it as well.
  • Chili – Not too much, not too little. Precisely. Chili makes the smoothie slightly spicy, but not too overpowering. It also gets our metabolism going and gives you a real energy boost.
    It is optional, of course and you can leave it out. If you don't like to drink spicy drinks or if you want to serve this chocolate smoothie to kids please skip the chili.

These simple ingredients make a wonderfully creamy, healthy chocolate smoothie.

These ingredients are NOT in the chocolate smoothie:

  • refined sugar
  • unhealthy fats
  • milk
  • gluten
  • Bananas (I really like bananas and use them regularly in dishes and smoothies. However, I keep hearing that many people don't like the taste or texture, which is why they are not included in this recipe.)
  • Milk – I also use milk quite often. But it's not needed in this dairy-free chocolate smoothie.

How to make a Healthy Chocolate Smoothie

To prepare the smoothie, you need to put all the ingredients in a blender at once and blend for at least 1 minute. Depending on how soft the dates are, you can even blend the chocolate smoothie for 2 minutes. This makes it ultra creamy.

Since this healthy smoothie tastes best when it is very cold, I recommend that you serve it on ice cubes or prepare it with very cold water.

Which dates are best?

The softer the dates the softer this chocolate smoothie will be.

Either use medjool dates or soak the dates in water before making the smoothie.

With the latter, you have the option of placing them in cold water overnight or pouring hot water over them about 15 minutes before preparation.
The water in which the dates are soaked is then disposed of and not used for the smoothie used.

How does the smoothie become particularly creamy?

Blend the smoothie for at least a minute. The longer it is mixed, the finer the ingredients become and the creamier the chocolate smoothie becomes.

Chocolate and chili – do they really go together?

Yes, so well! However, dose the chili carefully. Don't put too much in and taste the smoothie.

Feel free to leave out the chili if you don't like it spicy or if the smoothie is being served to children.

Can I make this healthy Chocolate Smoothie ahead of time?

Yes! This Smoothie with cocoa can be made in just 3 minutes, but it is also easy to prepare. If not drinking immediately, store in the refrigerator and use within two days. It's best to put it in a sealed container before enjoying and shake so that it becomes creamy again.

Ingredients

  • 480 ml water cold (1 cup = 240 ml)
  • 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 5 tbsp cashews
  • ¼ tsp cardamom powder optional
  • ¼ tsp chili flakes optional
  • 7 medium medjool dates approx. 50 grams, stone removed

In Addition

  • ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  • If the dates are not soft, either soak them in cold water over night or pour hot water over them 15 minutes before preparing the smoothie. Then strain the dates.
  • Put all ingredients in a blender. Slowly switch to the highest level. Blend for at least a minute until the smoothie is creamy.
  • Pour into a glasses and enjoy. If not drunk immediately, store in the refrigerator and use within 2 days.
