Oh, hello fall! Along with spring, it is my favorite season. A big part of my love for fall is all the fruits and vegetables that are available right now. Pumpkin, pears, chestnuts, APPLES.
If you like apple dishes as much as I do, then a really great recipe awaits you today. This easy apple galette with salted caramel is prepared with a homemade dough made from butter, flour and quark. The filling is a mixture of ofjuicy, sweet apples, cinnamon and grated nuts. To make it into perfection, this easy galette is topped with salted caramel. OH YES!!!
How to make this easy Apple Galette with salted caramel
- The homemade dough is very quick and easy to prepare. All you need to do is put all the ingredients into a food processor at once and knead them into a dough. You then put this dough in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to chill.
- Meanwhile, prepare the filling: wash the apples, halve them, remove the seeds and cut them into thin slices. These mix with nuts, lemon juice, cinnamon and a little bit of brown sugar.
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured work surface. If you like, you can cut out designs with a knife or cookie cutter and decorate the edge of the apple galette with them. But you can also leave them “rustic” without further ado.
- Spread the filling on the crust, then fold in the edge, decorate with the designs (if you want) and bake this easy galette.
- The galette tastes best slightly warm with drizzles of homemade salted caramel and vanilla ice cream. You will LOVE this combination!
The salted caramel is optional. BUT. You don't want to miss it. Trust me. You can probably imagine how good a warm apple galette with salted caramel and vanilla ice cream tastes.
But you won't really know what I'm talking about until you actually try it. IT'S A DREAM.
A warm apple galette with a scoop of a creamy, cold vanilla ice cream, the sweetness of the caramel, the tartness of the apples and a touch of salt.
Perfection.
Easy Apple Galette with Salted Caramel - Tips & FAQ
What should I pay attention to when preparing the dough?
Make sure the dough does not get warm while kneading. If you knead it by hand, do it as quickly as possible. This ensures that it will turn out crispy and flakey.
Can I prepare the dough?
Yes, very good actually. Wrap the finished, unbaked dough in cling film or place it in a container with a lid and store it in the refrigerator. Use it within 2 days.
How much does the salted caramel make?
The recipe for the salted caramel makes approx. 200 ml (a little bit more than 2/3 cups). It will keep covered in the fridge for at least 2 weeks. Remove from the fridge 30 minutes before using so it isn't too solid when served. If it's too thick, you can stir in some liquid whipping cream.
The salted caramel tastes INCREDIBLY good drizzled over vanilla ice cream, latte macchiatos, pancakes or as a dip for fresh apples and pears.

- 1 tsp cinnamon grounded
Salted Caramel
- 170 g light brown sugar
- 100 g butter
- 120 ml whipping cream or half-half
- ¼ tsp salt
Instructions
Dough
- Place flour, sugar and salt in a food processor. Grate the cold butter on top or add it in small pieces. Mix briefly with your hands, then knead with the food processor. Gradually add the water. Stir just until everything is combined.
- Place the dough on the work surface, form it into a ball with your hands and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (or overnight).
Salted Caramel
- Melt the sugar, butter and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved and everything turns a nice golden color. Stir constantly.
- Once the sugar has caramelized, add the cream. Be very careful during this step! It may splatter as the caramel is very hot!
- Stir until everything is well combined. Then pour the caramel into a glass. If it is too thick, stir in a little more cream (can also be done if the caramel has already cooled completely).
Galette
- Preheat the oven to 190°C /374°F top and bottom heat. Prepare a baking tray with baking paper. Roughly chop the hazelnuts.
- Cut the apples into thin slices. Mix apples, nuts, sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
- If you like, use a small piece of the dough to cut out leaves or any design.
- Roll out the dough on a floured work surface to a thickness of approx. 4 mm / 0.15 inches (approx. 35 cm / 14 inches in diameter). Carefully lift onto the baking tray.
- Spread the apple mixture in the middle. Leave approx. 4 cm / 1.5 inches free on the outside.
- Fold in the edge. Whisk the egg and brush it over the dough. Place the cut-out motifs on the galette and also brush with the egg.
- Die Apfel Galette ca. 35 Minuten backen, bis sie goldbraun ist. 10 Minuten auskühlen lassen. Noch warm mit etwas gesalzenem Karamell servieren.
- The warm apple galette also tastes wonderful with whipped cream and/or vanilla ice cream.
